What is DRM?

DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management, a broad term used to describe a number of techniques for restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. DRM is used in a number of media, but is most commonly found in video and music files. There are many who argue that DRM is a misnomer, since it deals with use issues rather than the rights of the consumer. They therefore reinterpret DRM to stand for Digital Restrictions Management.
The case for DRM is that without a strong system in place to ensure only paying consumers can access media, piracy will run rampant and cut drastically into profits for producers and distributors. With declining sales, so the argument goes, creative input will also drop and the overall quality of media produced will decline. (continue reading…)

Provider müssen Daten von Filesharern nicht herausgeben
Internetprovider müssen die persönlichen Daten ihrer Kunden nicht an die Musikindustrie herausgeben. Das hat der Europäische Gerichtshof in Luxemburg entschieden. In Spanien hatte eine Verwertungsgesellschaft für Musik gegen einen Provider geklagt, weil dieser seine Kunden nicht verraten wollte. Die Interessen der Rechteinhaber dürften den Schutz persönlicher Daten nicht einschränken.
Die Länder dürfen selbst entscheiden
Laut dem Urteil ist es der Gesetzgebung der europäischen Ländern selbst überlassen, ob Telekommunikationsanbieter Kundendaten bei zivilrechtlichen Prozessen herausgeben müssen. In Spanien ist dies, wie auch in Deutschland, nur bei Strafprozessen der Fall, wenn die Staatsanwaltschaft ermittelt. In Spanien ist Filesharing von geschützten Werken allerdings nur dann illegal, wenn der Nutzer sich damit bereichern will.

Peekvid is a very simple website where you can watch lots of popular video content like TV shows, cartoons, movies and more. There is a little you can do here, you won’t see any register, search, my account or even contact links, actually the only thing you can do is browse down through categories and watch whatever is there. Any video you see on peekvid is either from Youtube or some other video sharing website. So all that Peekvid does: it finds and categorizes all popular video for you. For instance, If I browse down to Cartoons/Simpsons category I get most of the Simpsons episodes that were uploaded to one or the other video sharing site.

I have an old 20GB iPod and even though I have a lot of music on there, I am only taking up half of the space available. So there’s another 10GB kicking around doing nothing and so I decided to start putting some useful iPod tools on there for when I’m on the move. Some of that space was allocated for installing one of my favourite websites - Wikipedia.Yes that’s right. Thanks to iPodLinux, you can now have the entire Wikipedia encylopedia on your iPod. Clocking in at only 1.7 GB of space, it is a very handy tool if you have the sudden uncontrollable urge while out at the shops to discover the capital of Mongolia or the mating habits of eels. The Wikipedia file is updated approximately once every 6 months so you won’t have the most up-to-date version but hey it’s free and Mongolia isn’t going to change their capital anytime soon.
It’s very easy to set this up but the actual Wikipedia file is so huge that it takes a long time to download. I have been waiting for 35 minutes and the download is only at 40%. So be prepared to wait a while for the file to be finished.

Jodhaa Akbar

Jodhaa Akbar is a sixteenth century love story about a marriage of alliance that gave birth to true love between a great Mughal emperor, Akbar, and a Rajput princess, Jodhaa.
Political success knew no bounds for Emperor Akbar (Hrithik Roshan). After having secured the Hindu Kush, he furthered his realm by conquest until his empire extended from Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal, and from the Himalayas to the Godavari River. Through a shrewd blend of diplomacy, intimidation and brute force , Akbar won the allegiance of the Rajputs, the strongest of the Hindu castes. But little did Akbar know that when he married Jodhaa (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), a fiery Rajput princess, in order to further strengthen his relations with the Rajputs, he would in turn be embarking upon a new journey – the journey of true love.
The daughter of King Bharmal of Amer, Jodhaa resented being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage of alliance, and Akbar’s biggest challenge now did not merely lie in winning battles, but in winning the love of Jodhaa – a love hidden deep below resentment and extreme prejudice. Jodhaa-Akbar is their untold love story.
