The Godfather 0.71 Beta 2
verwaltet Ihre Musikdateien

Why Is DRM-Free Music Tagged With Name and E-Mail? Apple Keeps Mum
by admin on Feb.03, 2008, under Freie Musik
Apple has declined to explain why its new DRM-free music files are watermarked with users’ names and e-mail addresses.Earlier this week, Apple iTunes 7.2 brought the new ability to download tracks from EMI Records without copy protection. But the unprotected files are labeled with the buyer’s details, leading some to wonder if Apple is appending the information as an anti-piracy measure.
But Apple is remaining mum about its reasoning.
An Apple spokesman suggested by e-mail that Wired News contact Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Jupiter Research who has been briefed about iTunes Plus. The Apple spokesman didn’t respond to further requests for comment.
Gartenberg said there are many reasons why Apple would want to tag music sold through the iTunes store. The information could be used as a proof of purchase, or to facilitate upgrades (songs previously bought through iTunes can be upgraded to higher fidelity versions for an extra 30 cents). The identifier could help identify songs missing from albums (iTunes offers a “complete album” feature), as well as to thwart piracy. (continue reading…)

Install a Wiki on your IPod
by admin on Jan.28, 2008, under Freie Musik
I have an old 20GB iPod and even though I have a lot of music on there, I am only taking up half of the space available. So there’s another 10GB kicking around doing nothing and so I decided to start putting some useful iPod tools on there for when I’m on the move. Some of that space was allocated for installing one of my favourite websites - Wikipedia.Yes that’s right. Thanks to iPodLinux, you can now have the entire Wikipedia encylopedia on your iPod. Clocking in at only 1.7 GB of space, it is a very handy tool if you have the sudden uncontrollable urge while out at the shops to discover the capital of Mongolia or the mating habits of eels. The Wikipedia file is updated approximately once every 6 months so you won’t have the most up-to-date version but hey it’s free and Mongolia isn’t going to change their capital anytime soon.
It’s very easy to set this up but the actual Wikipedia file is so huge that it takes a long time to download. I have been waiting for 35 minutes and the download is only at 40%. So be prepared to wait a while for the file to be finished.

Video and Audio Streaming into Second Life
by admin on Jan.20, 2008, under Second Life
One difficult item that has bugged me for quite a bit has been trying to stream media from Windows PC’s into SL.
Winamp to Shoutcast.com via the DSP Plugin is one solutions but suffers from a very bad buffer delay that places you out of synch with what people are hearing. Imaging up to a 90 second delay in a conversation and thats about what you get..
If you have a Macintosh available to you then there is no problem as all the tools are there and ready to roll (Broadcaster is free and there are other FREE tools for Mac but not the PC)
Well I have found one pretty nice (but expensive $500) solution in Vara Software’s Wirecast. If you don’t mind the annoying audio over or the video watermark you can use it for free all you like. The learning curve is very low and the tool is easy to use. (continue reading…)

Does DRM-Free Music Matter?
by admin on Jan.14, 2008, under Freie Musik, Randinformationen
A couple of weeks ago, I surmised that because Apple enjoys a dominating end-to-end position in the digital music market, most consumers are never really affected by the DRM restrictions they impose — if users are buying music to play on their iPods, then they don’t really come in contact with the DRM. If consumers aren’t bothered by DRM, or perhaps not even aware that it exists, will “no DRM” resonate as a marketing message? Recently released sales data seems to suggest so. (continue reading…)

Torrent iTunes plus (DRM free) might be bad…

Sure, you can now download music from the iTunes store without DRM but that doesn’t mean you should just willy nilly start sharing that music with your friends. For one thing, it’s illegal. For another, your account information is embedded into that m4a music file. Don’t believe me? Try this yourself. (continue reading…)
